I had to address myself
Alter my mentality
Search for inspiration elsewhere
It wasn’t a complete loss
I discovered three things
You can’t be half-hearted
No surrender, no retreat
Losing sleep to chase the dream.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, a sunset on the beach, walk in the park or a relatable song. You just need to know what uplifts you. My go-to for inspiration tends to be music, but I wanted to switch things up. Growth was the theme of 2018, but it was only written on paper, had I pursued it? Of course not, it’s easier to speak than to follow through with action. Wondering how I could better myself, what skills I wanted to enhance, habits I wanted to gain. Reading has always been at the top of my agenda, however, I tend to get distracted. Remembering that I’m my own limitation, I disregarded the excuses and headed to Amazon to purchase books that I had saved for later.
Among the books, one that stood out, recommended by Amazon was Phoebe Lovatt’s The Working Woman’s Handbook. Although I’m yet to finish it – I started reading it last night – the book includes inspiring interviews with influential women, exercise pages and practical tips in each section. This was exactly what I needed, a reality check with a helpful guide. What type of book inspires you? The other books I bought revolve around
- fashion – know the industry you’re trying to break into
- style – understand different eras, cultures and categories
- & friendship – maintain happy functional relationships
Exhibitions, museums and artists inspire me instantly, I get transported into their world for a split second by observing a piece of art. London has various events happening weekly, yet I choose to stay in the comfort of my home. Well, this needs to change. Whether alone or with a friend, I will be in attendance, it’s a great way to network with like-minded individuals, be fascinated and gain inspiration. The only way to progress is to step out of your comfort zone regularly.
Home decor has always peaked an interest due to Pinterest, offering beautiful room inspirations that I even have a board dedicated to it. Recently my mother decided to refurbish our living room, from the curtains to the sofas, everything must be changed. The living room has always been a neutral palette, if a colour was involved it tended to be dark, not this time because purple is entering our colour-free zone. Excitement is in the air as I eagerly await to see the final version.
What’s inspiring you this month?
Until next time, stay fabulous,
