How To Be Boujee On A Budget

Boujee On A Budget

The holiday season is over, it’s a new year with new goals, one thing I plan to do is save more without compromising on style. With one click I can buy new items to add to my overflowing wardrobe but when reflecting on the purchase did I really need another dress? A scarf? Or more jewellery? The answer is usually no. Thinking about where I spend my money – usually food and clothes – I came up with the motto only buy things that make you happy. Which lead me to explore what actually makes me happy, the answer was simple, experiences. I live in London but I don’t explore my city as much, googling what places I would ideally like to visit, I made a list, anytime I might impulsively buy clothes I look at the list and reconsider. Other experiences include travelling whether that’s around the UK, Europe or international destinations, travel is on my agenda much more this year. So, you might be wondering how can you be boujee on a budget without compromising? Well, let me answer that by sharing five tips.

1. Bold Red Lip
Makeup has the ability to change the perception of an individual, a classic red lip shows fierceness, confidence and strength. Slipping on like satin and setting like velvet, once on self-doubt disappears, you become a boss or like Lilly Singh would say a bawse conquering all aspects of her life. Bloggers, celebrities and old-school film heroines like Marilyn Monroe have all sported the lip shade, simultaneously being feminine and powerful. If red isn’t your shade, try burgundy, it’s darker yet possess similar characteristics of a classic red. Tip to being boujee on a budget, be comfortable and confident.

2. Statement Coat
The first thing people will notice is outerwear, invest in a cosy coat that speaks volumes. A long camel coat can be used no matter the season as the colour is transitional, it is a key colour in any wardrobe. The outfit underneath could all be from Primark but as long as your coat screams chic, elegance and style, you’re still winning.

3. Popping Shoes
Add a touch of colour or detail to your outfit through shoes. Recently my Instagram feed has been filled with many sporting red boots which are on trend, great for the winter season and scream excitement. Look in your closet are revive an old pair of shoes that oomph to your outfit or genuinely make you happy, as confidence is the best accessory.

4. Sunglasses
One item that instantly sparks boujee-ness in my mind is a pair of simple blacked out shades, they do the job effectively. Paired with a bold red lip or round hoops you’re nailing the style. You may already own each item and if not, you can find them for a reasonable price especially online in the sale section just adjust the settings from popular to low to high.

5. Jewellery
Dainty or statement, a piece of jewellery elevates an outfit. Recently I’ve been obsessed with dainty gold accessories, from my go-to small hoops to barely there necklaces and rings. It’s not about colour every day, sometimes neutral shades can do you justice, and when in doubt, look towards Queen B for inspiration, her style is always impeccable.
