The time is now, honesty hour, removing the mask and turning down the persona. Sitting behind a screen, in my zone, I’m comfortable. Writing allows me to express my darkest feelings, in the process of figuring out this journey we call life, appearing to hold it all together, but in reality, nothing is going to plan. Today I’m letting my soul cry through these words as every rose needs rain to grow whilst discussing how you can find your own happy place.
Let’s start from the beginning? If only I knew where that was. Recently, when the topic of career and success surfaced, I humbly backed away from the conversation, not because I was scared, but when the path was unclear it’s hard to discuss. I asked myself, what do you want to achieve? The answer was happiness, but how does one measure happiness? I had to dig deeper, I started blogging to inspire others, to spread positivity and speak about expression through fashion. This led me to the conclusion of a career in editorial, but stating that meant nothing, yes, I now had a direction but not a plan. A timeline needed to be created in order to begin the process of climbing the ladder to success. Whether that was by applying for internships or entry-level jobs, I had to start from somewhere, as nothing was handed for free. Rejection after rejection, the hope and spirit slowly disappeared, seeing those around me achieving, I felt I was wasting my energy and resources. In a spiral of self-doubt, I had to remind myself everything is temporary, no-one’s going to take care of me, the way I can take care of myself. Fighting for happiness can be the hardest thing to do, but it’s definitely the most worthwhile.
Wondering to myself, aren’t we all somewhat alone? In the absence of familiarity, feeling uncomfortable among the unknown, waiting for the acknowledgement yet being surrounded by strangers, it’s quite an unusual sensation. A calm demeanour transforms into a timid individual with increased anxiety and self-awareness. We need to become content with our own company, it’s easy to say it, but actually achieving it is another story. You may ask how can I be content? Simple by practising self-love and becoming self-aware.
Let me take you on a trip to happiness, we all have our happy places, though they may vary for each individual the foundation remains the same. Create a place in your mind that allows you to feel confident in all your surroundings and situations. I would call mine The Land of Warriors and Poets, as it represents two things that are significant to me, which are strength and creativity. At first glance, it’s a sparkly purple paradise, however, on a closer look, the colours are intertwined with blue, pink and white. My very own fairyland full of sugar, spice and everything nice, such as music, fluffy items and Kinder Buenos. Need help creating your own? Think about these questions:
- What’s your favourite colour? What do these colours emote?
- What items do you adore the most?
- Do you have a favourite snack?
- What would you like your happy place to represent?
I control my mind, say it with me. I. CONTROL. MY. MIND. Doesn’t that feel liberating? It’s easy to feel alone, but remind yourself that you’re not alone, half the people around us experience this sensation. We all go through stages of hardship and adversity, grow from the situation never allow it to consume or define you. You now have your own paradise of happiness, bring those emotions into real-world situations, lacking confidence, feeling anxious or just need an extra boost? Remember your happy place, it will help you be victorious.
What’s your paradise of happiness called?
Until next time, stay fabulous,
